Do You Know What Today Is?

by David on August 29, 2013

Do you know what today is? Today is tomorrow. It actually happened! After seven years of reliving the same day over and over (ala Bill Murray in Groundhog Day), I have finally successfully defended my dissertation proposal. Two hours, 22 minutes and 41 seconds (I recorded it through the conference calling system) of grilling and questioning. But not as bad as I had anticipated.

I still need to make two primary changes, go before the appeals committee and get another extension, and get various other approvals. But this is a major hurdle. I’ll know on 9/16 if I get an extension. I’ll start the research shortly thereafter and should defend by Spring.

Thanks for everyone’s encouragement and prayers over the years for this! Now, if Vanderbilt can win their season opener against Ole Miss, it will be a banner day indeed!

David didn’t tell us he was defending his proposal. We just thought it was a meeting. So we were very surprised by the announcement. A FUN SURPRISE!

I’d say it was a banner day anyway, despite Vandy’s loss. We’re all so happy for you! If you could defend on February 3, the Groundhog Day metaphor would be complete…
