Here We Go Again!

by David on May 22, 2012

Received a written warning today at work and the threat that I might likely lose my job in the next 30 days. Essentially, In my boss’ eyes I am not learning the software as quickly as he expects. He says my heart is not in it, and frankly he’s right. He invited me to leave and suggested he’d pay to move our furniture back to Nashville if I decided in the next few days. But, to where? No place to lay our heads at the moment. He did suggest that I could try really hard to possibly save my job but that there are no promises and that he still reserves the right to let me go at any time.  What little confidence I did have left is now completely gone.

I stopped looking for work, so I have no back-up plan. I am going to try to circle back with the 80% travel consulting job. Please pray that God would intervene soon. We really don’t know what to do next.

So sorry to hear, David. I know God is at work, and in mysterious ways. I pray that in the midst of all this, he will enable you to see his loving hand rather than natural feelings of abandonment. And of course, I’ll be praying for wisdom and fresh opportunities SOON.

Thanks for all your prayers. David did hear from the consulting place (the 80% travel place) and they still want to talk to him. They may even get with him this weekend. Please pray.

We will keep praying. I am definitely not glad to see this happen but we were sad to see you have to move so far away and pray that you will find something closer.

What a wild ride life must seem like right now! But it’s good to know that this is only from our perspective. God has a plan and He will show you what He has in mind for you. We are praying for you.

Thanks for your prayers everyone. Here’s the latest.

Dad, the 80% travel company is headquartered in Atlanta, but the small team I would be a part of is based in Nashville, so for the one day per week I would be in town, they prefer that I be in Nashville. But, Atlanta is a possibility as well. They are flying me to Nashville tomorrow night and I am interviewing with the person who would be my boss on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, after a project update meeting today with my boss, I took the opportunity to follow up on the news he gave me the other day. I asked if he would pay to move our stuff back to Nashville. (He never answered the question). He was surprised that I would ask and believes that I could still save my job if I tried really hard. He said he’s had to threaten to get rid of other people before and that most of them turned it around. The two hour project meeting revealed to me even further that I am out of my element. I have to create a “data warehouse” to store performance and compensation data. I know what one is but have no idea how to do that. That’s just one example.

I am just hoping that the consulting job works out. At least for the near term. I don’t think I could keep up that travel pace for terribly long. I wish I had better options, but am trusting that God will make it clear what we should do.

Dad, the 80% travel job would be based out of Nashville, most likely. So we could stay here. Their headquarters is in Atlanta.

David has an interview scheduled this Saturday here in Nashville, this Saturday morning.

How did the interview go? In your last comment, David, the word “threatened” jumped out. Whatever happened to encouragement or giving someone the tools they need to learn a new job. I am surprised how much I am left to find out things on my own, even just basic information. When I say I need to learn how to do thus and such I feel like I am patted on the head and they say they will get to it but never do. It is very frustrating. I think with regards to my job/department they are so afraid of Medicare that most of their energy is focused on that.

The interview went well. They said that they are going to make him an offer on Tuesday.

We will be praying about that.
