St. Louis received about 3-4 inches of snow over the weekend! I was so excited. Saturday night is when most of the snow fell. My roommate and I were hosting a dinner for some the international students. We didn’t do the cooking, although we did help. Most of the students were Chinese, so they made Chinese dumplings. I think about 15 people came, and everyone seemed to have a good time cooking and talking together.
We watched a Chinese movie also, which was funny but unfortunately a few scenes that were not so pleasant. However, I remarked to one of the Chinese students (from the physics department) that I did not appreciate them; and this led to some interesting conversations about people being empty, always searching, but never satisfied. Now that I look back, I don’t remember that I explicitly presented the gospel, which seems a shame to me. Maybe it was because we were washing dishes at the time and my mind was thinking about too many things at once; but hopefully we (one of the leaders of International friends was there, too) planted some seeds.
Anyway, as you can probably tell I made a digression, although not an insignificant one. While we were cleaning up I looked outside at all the snow. I couldn’t just let it go to waste. So I went outside with only a shirt and a sweater (because I was only going to be out for a ‘short time’) and dove into the snow. I began throwing snow balls at one of our windows (they weren’t hard snow balls) do get the attention of the people inside because the blinds were down. I had to throw like ten snow balls before somebody peeked through the blinds. They had thought that I was a bad dude. I also picked some of the powdery snow and threw it into the air and shouted, “Hooraaay! It’s snowing!” I was sooo excited. I barely got wet, because the snow was so dry.
On Sunday after church, I asked a family that goes to my house church if they were going to go sledding in the afternoon. They said that they weren’t but that I could borrow their sleds. I was gladly accepted their offer. I couldn’t find anybody to come with me, though. Arpith didn’t want to go out in the cold, and others had different plans already made. I wished that my family could be here in St. Louis so that I would have people to play with.
However, a man who is the son of a couple from my church in St. Elmo lives in St. Louis with his family. I have visited them on occasion and gone walking with them in Forest Park. They have four delightful kids. I called them up, and it turned out that they were planning on going to Art Hill (the big hill in front of the art museum in Forest Park) to sled! So I joined them. I had much fun. One of my favorite parts was going back up the hill and sometimes pulling up some of the kids along with me on a sled. It was vigorous work, but I thoroughly enjoyed it:) I guess I haven’t gotten enough exercise the past two weeks or so.
Sunday evening I watched ‘The Gold Rush’, by Charlie Chaplin, with some friends from International friends. We all laughed together. Overall, it was a splendid day. Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures of the snow. I was too busy enjoying it.

I wish it would snow here in Charlotte… unfortunately, Charlotte seems to be the warmest–and least snowiest–place we’ve lived in so far.
I will play with you, Seth! I cannot wait to play when you get back. Hmm…maybe we will get snow–I hope so! I am so sorry, James, that snow seems an impossibility 🙁
Snow does bring a freshness and newness to life. I’m glad you had a good day.
I’m so glad you were able to sled with that family!
It sounds so much fun. That hill is pretty long…that must’ve been fun.
I’ve gone sledding on that hill myself, with our youth group at church. It was a blast.
cool!
