Last night I was hoping to get a good night’s rest to be alert for the GRE, but for some reason I just could not sleep. I think I finally went to sleep around 6:30, so a got between 2 and 3 hours. My parents, along with Audrey, drove me down (the test center was in Marietta, GA) so that I could sleep some on the way.
I did well on the quantitative section (710 out of 800), but I did relatively poorly on the verbal (560). On the last practice test I had taken I had received a verbal score of 690, so in this respect my performance today was somewhat dissapointing. I had litte trouble with vocabulary, but I had difficulty focusing and retaining information on the reading comprehension and sentence completion sections. I am not sure if my score is good enough to get into graduate school for physics. I am going to ask my professors tomorrow what they think. I may be able to retake the exam at the beginning of January if need be.
In any case, I know that God loves me and that he is orchestrating some grand plan, whether I get into graduate school or not. Thank you all so much for your prayers! I think I really could have done much worse, considering how tired I was; speaking of being tired, I am heading to bed now.

If this score is not enough, I encourage you to retake it. I’m sorry about the sleepless night.
I spoke with my professor who went to Stanford. He got the same quantitative score and a little higher on the verbal. If that was good enough for Stanford, it probably is good enough for other schools as well. So I guess the score is not as bad as I thought it was. 🙂 Probably the deciding factor though is my Physics GRE score, which I still have not received.
Oh wonderful! So, are you going to take the GRE again? It seems you don’t have to, but perhaps I am wrong.
I may have to take it again, but I don’t know yet. Dr. Petcher is inquiring into several places to see what is expected on the average. Conditions may have changed over the past 20 years or so.
where would you go to graduate school? i remember you talking about it a long time ago, but i haven’t heard much since then. hope all is well, ~melissa
I am applying to several places. I am applying to Washington University in St. Louis, Stanford University, Ohio State University, and Pennsylvania State University, and probably some other ones, too.
