On Saturday Stephanie and I took some friends to see the riverfront in Augusta. While we were there, we saw a creature coming out of the river edge, go out about 20 feet into the river, then come back to some hole in the river edge. It just kept going back and forth. Take a look at the video with the link below and see if you can guess what kind of creature it is. We had to look it up when we got home.Β It was very cool, to say the least π

Hmm, I thought I knew what it was, but the particular animal I’m thinking of is endemic to Australia, not North America…
looks like a duck billed platypus – maybe escaped from the zoo? more likely a muskrat?
It kinda looks like an otter to me.
Dad says the tail looks more like a muskrat.
The first animal that came to mind was a river otter, but the tail reminded me of a rat tail, which does not seem very otterish. Therefore, I conclude it is a mutant otter from a genetic experiment gone wrong. Maybe an ‘otterat’ or a ‘ratterot’?
Looks just like a muskrat to me.
I might agree with Seth because without the tail and seeing how the animal lies flat in the water it looks like an otter. Otters are also playful.
Very creative clip! I have no clue what it is. π
It’s cute, whatever it is. π
Thank you for all of your guesses! Our initial guesses were a platypus or a beaver. An otter is a good guess, too, but I think they have longer bodies (like a weasel or a ferret). So, we decided that it was most likely a muskrat! Good guesses Uncle Alan, Dad, Mom, and Uncle David! See more pictures of a muskrat by looking up “muskrat” on Google Images.
Seth, your answer really made me laugh π
It must’ve been so fun to have discovered the muskrat by the river!
Micah, I’m glad I made you laugh π
