Buying a house

by micah on September 16, 2012

Stephanie and I will be buying a house here in Augusta!

We actually started thinking and praying about buying a house a little less than a year ago. We thought it would be good to invest in home equity rather than in rent, and the current housing market made it seem a feasible time to look for a house. We mostly searched for homes online, and then in January we stared looking at houses. Over the next several months we looked at a LOT of houses, which helped us get a sense of what kind of house we would want if the Lord were to provide it.

Anyway, we continued to commit it to the Lord, seeking direction as to whether we should even buy a house. Then in mid-August, we saw a house that seemed to be an answer to many prayers–and we knew it was a really good deal based on all of the other houses we had already seen! We decided to make an offer, all the while asking the Lord to open or close the doors according to His will. The seller counter-offered, accepting all of our stipulations (except for providing a stove)! So we decided to buy the house!

We close on the house on the 24th (a week from Monday). We are grateful for the Lord’s provision and glad to be moving into a house. The house is in a neighborhood convenient to work (and most of Augusta), and it is in the same neighborhood as a couple that have become our closest friends here–a wonderful blessing!

We would appreciate prayers that there would be no delays (since we have to be out of our apartment by the end of September) and that our move would go smoothly (especially since we still have to keep up with our teaching). Thankfully many people have offered to help us move once the time comes.

Here is a picture of the house:

Thank you very much everyone!

Uncle David, the house sits on .29 acres so it is a nice size.

Aunt Janice, Stephanie is taking off Monday and I am taking off half of Monday (so we can go to the closing).

We plan to start cleaning the house Monday evening (which I don’t think should take too long, as the house is empty :D), and then to move as much as we can in the evenings.

Grandpa Tom, thank you very much for suggesting you could help with the move. At this point, I don’t think we have a whole lot to move in the way of furniture and a number of friends from church and school that have trucks have offered to help us move the furniture. But, I will keep you posted if we find ourselves in need of more help!

We close on the house tomorrow! Very exciting! 😀
