Break-in

by Gary on October 18, 2011

Today when I got home at 4:20, and Andrea pulled in right behind me, we found that someone had broken into our house. They broke a glass pane of the front door, reached in, and unlocked the door. They were obviously only after jewelry, and they got some of our–mostly Audrey’s (including her birthstone that we got for her birthday). Nothing else was taken as far as we can tell. We’ve heard of two similar break-ins that also happened this afternoon between here and Fairyland. I’m leaving for Bogota tomorrow. I think Phyllis is going to stay home from work tomorrow. We’re getting up early to go get a new door. Then we are going to get a monitoring system.

Wow! Sorry to hear that. I had my wallet stolen at Kroger last week. I set it down on the U-Scan machine and forgot it. They have video of the guy taking it but the police are slow in doing anything about it. We had to cancel all of our cards, change our bank accounts, get a new driver’s license, etc. I also had over $1,000 in there because we were taking a trip the next day to visit James, which, of course, we never took. We’ll be praying for you guys.

Gary will go to Lowes early to get new doors (we are going to get a more secure back door as well) and our neighbor, Greg Duble said he would help us put in the door. Nathan will spend the night tomorrow night so even if the security system doesn’t get in I think we will be OK. Actually the fact that whoever did this kind of did a sweep through the area makes me think they won’t come back because the whole area is more alert now. One of our neighbors did see a 70 year old that she didn’t know with a helmet on riding a 3 wheeler around 3:30.
Thanks for all of your prayers.
The police did came. Gary and Andrea didn’t go in until they did come. The sheriff had a dog with him and pointed his gun around apparently as he walked through the basement (I was at work so some of this is from Gary and some from Andrea). A detective came and dusted and asked some questions. The person who did this was very neat and they said that was unusual but the other accounts we heard were the same. Robbie Donaldson was one of the other people that was robbed and she lives alone. We have decided to get a deadbolt with a key and we will get a monitored security system– just don’t know how quickly that can be done.
It feels like a spiritual thing partly because of this trip to Colombia. I was supposed to go and then things happened at work and my supervisor wouldn’t give me the time even though we already had the tickets and now this. The Lord is in control and we are glad of that.

David, sorry to hear of your troubles. That is an awful feeling. I had my pocketbook stolen in Chile and had to go through all of that.

We’re sorry to hear of the break in, but we’re glad you are safe. In addition to the stronger doors and locks and monitoring system it sounds like you may need a big dog that barks a lot when strangers come around.

How awful! Glad everyone is safe, though, and will pray that God would calm any fears.

Things like this make me long for our permanent home. I pray God will comfort and give you peace. wb
