Rain, Rain, Rain!!

by Gary on September 5, 2011

It’s been pouring down rain all day today, and according to the weather report it will continue doing so at least until tomorrow morning. We needed the rain, but I’m afraid this is going to cause some damage around the area. I imaging some of you may also be getting rain today. We all have off today. But no Labor Day cookout. (Actually we had one yesterday).

We’re getting lots of rain too. About 2 inches so far and it’s supposed to last until Thursday.

We’re supposed to have rain or the possibility of rain for the next 10 days.

We just discovered two leaks in our roof. Dealt with them temporarily. I’ve been thinking for a while now that we need a new roof. Oh well.

Sorry about the roof. A new one is a pretty big ticket item. We now have almost 5 inches in our rain gauge.

It’s rain, rain, rain in Winston as well. And the weather app on my dashboard says we’ll have rain every day until Saturday, at least.

Here’s a quote from the local news:

“Two rainfall records were set in the Chattanooga area Monday. With 8.16 inches of rain (as of 6 pm), the Labor Day rainfall total has already set the ALL TIME 24-hour record rainfall. This surpasses the previous record of 7.61 inches set on March 29-30, 1886.

There have been cases of more rainfall in isolated thunderstorms in the area, but Monday sets the official rainfall at the Chattanooga airport for a single day.

It also surpasses the record for the most rainfall on any September 5th. The previous record was 1.84 inches on September 5, 1959.

Of course these records come on the heels of the driest single month in history (August).”

And it’s still raining!

Pretty much same story here. We broke several, similar records, mostly set in 1888 or 1889. I emptied the rain gauge at 7 inches full this morning. Another 3/4 inch today. still raining. And our high was 54 today. I’m in sweats and still freezing in here and it was 101 Friday and 99 Saturday.

School was closed for Nana yesterday due to flooded roads. Katie’s college classes were not canceled; but one of the major roads she needed to take was closed, so since the back roads would probably be worse she didn’t go.
