Back from Costa Rica

by Gary on May 26, 2011

Phyllis and I got back from Costa Rica this morning at 2:30. We had planned to get back earlier, but our return flight was rescheduled. Phyllis had a dental appointment this morning at 9:00 and works today from 12 to 8. They kept us busy the whole time. We worked pretty much constantly except for 8 hours of sleep a night. We helped the missionary team (Rodney, Jana, Jeff and Heather) with team dynamics and other issues. We helped the Costa Rican church(es) with philosophy of ministry issues. Moisés pastors the church in San José. Andrés and Octaviano are leaders of the church. Victor pastors a church in the eastern part of the country. We had to drive through a rain forest to get there. I preached last Sunday at the church in San José and gave a Bible study Sunday evening. Here are some pictures:

Did you get to taste the juice of the sugar cane? That looks like it was fun. What are the Costa Rican churches like? Are their beliefs similar to ours?

Yes, the sugar cane juice was very good. Sweet! The church in the East is associated with the one in San José that asked us to come and help them implement Reformed theology. The one in the East tends to be dispensational. They are thinking about things. Everyone was very nice to us.

It looks like the church in San José is outside. Was it?

They are currently renting a gym. So it’s more or less inside.
