Micah & Stephanie: Update

by micah on March 23, 2011

Here is an update on our adventure together thus far (I’m going to be brief for now to make sure I get at least something up on the blog :D):

I had decided that The Stony Brook School was not a place to start a marriage, and I wanted to leave the school anyway because of the difficulty in participating in a church. So, throughout January and February I was “working” hard to find another job. Being that we are getting married June 25th, I wanted to find a job quickly, of course, and Stephanie and I had been fervently praying that the Lord would provide a job soon.

The first place I looked was Westminster Schools of Augusta (where Stephanie teaches) because the Headmaster actually initiated contact with me (when he learned how serious Stephanie and I were in our relationship and that I was working at Stony Brook).

I had a two week Spring Break the last week of February into the first week of March, so I drove down to Augusta where I stayed with Stephanie’s grandparents. We had a great time together. I visited some of her classes and even was a guest speaker 😀 ; we had many pic-nics; we spent many hours in the public library working on grading or job hunting and such.

While I was in Augusta I also had a number of interviews at Westminster and did some demo teaching for the principal et al. Westminster was very interested in me, but they did not know their needs for next year and offering me a job would have been a conglomeration of various smaller things (Stephanie is a great teacher, so they were also very interested in trying to keep her at the school by finding a place for me :D)

During my two-week break, I was also filling out a (crazily long) application for The Wheaton Academy (about an hour west of Chicago) and I sent that it. They were very interested in me and they flew me out there March 17th for interviews and demo teaching. It was a good visit and Wheaton is a good school—lot’s of potential.

About a week earlier, Westminster had contacted me saying that one of their Spanish teachers had unexpectedly resigned, opening a place for me (everyone was astonished—a sign from the Lord?). This led to a number of phone interviews with the principal, foreign language chair, and the headmaster. These in turn lead to Westminster offering me the job on March 16th (the day before my interviews at Wheaton)!

I actually spoke with the principal of Wheaton this afternoon and he offered me the position there as well! I must say, it is quite affirming to receive two job offers and I am humbled and grateful to God for providing not one but two options so early in the year!

After prayerful consideration, Westminster (in Augusta) is the best choice and I feel the Lord leading there. It is not too far from family, there is a great church Stephanie and I can be a part of, and we will both have jobs right away (we’ll actually BE the Spanish department—which we are looking forward to)—among other benefits. So, I have told Westminster I will accept their offer, and I have told Wheaton that I do not feel the Lord calling me there at this time.

The Lord has indeed been very good to us and we are both very grateful for his provision of a great job! I know you all have been praying for us and I am very grateful for your prayers and support, too!

Well, so much for being brief, and I could go on and on! But I’ll have to continue on later. Bye for now!

It seems that the Lord led you in very revealing ways in providing you a job. It is an answer to prayer. Grandpa Tom
