Over the last few years my upper back has been cracking more and more easily and frequently. Sometimes this causes mild discomfort, albeit no pain. I thought that I should go to a chiropractor to find out what is happening or if there is anything serious. So far I have had two visits to the chiropractor. The first visit he took some X-rays, and the second visit he showed them to me. Evidently I do have some disalignment in my spine, and couple of vertabra are slightly twisted out of place. In addition, one of my hips is a little higher than the other, and my lower vertebra have a very slight displacement in from the normal curvature of the spine. The X-rays and the chiropractor’s explanations were all rather interesting.
Today he did an adjustment on my back. I thought it was rather fun. He pressed, pushed, pulled, and twisted my back into various positions, and several times my back cracked loudly (it did not hurt), at which points the chiropractor said, “good.”
He said that he would like to adjust my back three days a week until I leave to St. Louis. I did not gather that what I have is serious, but the chiropractor did say that the condition of my spine could possibly worsen. My impression is that his desire to fix my back is akin to my enjoyment of tackling physics problems. I told him I don’t have the money to have so many adjustments, but he said he would do everything for $200 instead of $1000! He told me to think about it and to pray about it.
This seems like a good opportunity to get my back fixed; however, I don’t think the insurance will cover very much so I will have to pay out of my own pocket. My symptoms are not serious right now, although I suspect that one of the vertabra is pinching one of my nerves because several times a day I feel a numbness or tingling inside my ear. I am not sure how important it is to get my back straightened at this moment.
Do any of you all have experience with chiropractors? What do you think about them Grandma Judy?
The chiropractor said he became a chiropractor because his mother had a terrible case of chrome disease which was significantly better, if not healed, after getting her back adjusted for several months. Apparently she had gone to many doctors (including Dr. Atkins), but none of them were able to help her. Finally someone suggested going to a chiropractor, and six months later she was working for the chiropractor. Apparently one of the nerves controlling the sphincter to the duodenum was not working properly because it was being pinched by improperly aligned vertabra.

Seth,
We’ve all had good results with chiropracors at various times. It sounds like a good opportunity to me.

Wow, that’s fascinating! I want to go to a chiropractor! 🙂
I don’t have any experience with chiropractors, but his price sounds like a good deal! If it could help your problem it would be worth it, I think. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
