Back From Japan

by sejwa on June 13, 2010

I just realized today that I haven’t posted anything since I got back to the U.S. I returned Monday night without any problems. I was awake for about 28 hours because I wasn’t able to sleep on the plane. Monday night I slept about 12 hours, but since then I have had trouble sleeping. Tuesday night I couldn’t go to sleep until 5 a.m., Wednesday 4 a.m., Thursday, 2 a.m., Friday, 3 a.m., and now as I write this post the time is almost 3 a.m.. Please pray that I would be back on schedule by next week, as there is a lot of work I have to do. I think the thought of all the things I need to do is part of the reason I am having difficulty sleeping.

My last week in Japan was quite fun. I stayed with the parents of my Japanese friend here in St. Louis. I also spent two nights in Japan’s old capital Kyoto. Kyoto has many beautiful places, but there are many temples and shrines there, and I was saddened to see the Japanese praying there. In fact, on the train ride to Kyoto the person sitting next to me said that she was going to Kyoto to worship her ancestors. I had an interesting conversation with her, but I think I should try to sleep now. I will post some pictures later on.

I found the thing that helped me turn my internal clock around the best on huge time zone changes was melatonin. It’s a naturally occuring hormone in the body that uses daylight to help set your body clock. You can get supplements at any drug store. Praying you can sleep…

Hope you can get regulated in your sleeping and waking patterns.

Sorry I haven’t posted any pictures yet. I’ll have time to do so this weekend. I’ll see if I can post some footage of traveling on the bullet train that I took with my iPhone.
