Hi everyone. Please pray for Jacob. Yesterday he was accidentally hit in the face with a baseball bat. Adam was with him at the hospital yesterday all afternoon and through the night(he was admitted). He has a fracture in the bone above his right eye, as well as a fracture in the front and back sinuses underneath his eye. The back sinus area is the same as his inner skull. Beyond the inner skull is the brain cavity, which includes a sac of fluid between the brain and the inner skull. Jacob was monitored overnight to make sure there was no fluid leaking from this sac out into his sinus cavity. Such a leak would bring the risk of the growth of bacteria, even progressing to meningitis. So far, there has been no leaking.
Jacob came home early this afternoon. His pain is minimal, taking Tylenol when needed. He can only have liquids and smooth foods at this point. He basically has to treat his head like a fragile egg(new meaning to the word, egghead) while his bones heal. Any jarring could cause leaking, in which case we would need to call the neurological surgeon immediately. The doctors say the recovery time should take about 6-8 weeks. Not easy or fun for a 14 year-old boy!
Please pray for his healing and the whole process of protecting his head.
