Hey all!

I have been sitting in my house bored (almost) to death! So I want to know how all of you are doing.     Brea

I wish we could trade places: then I could be bored and you could write all my papers for me! But alas, we are doomed to suffer our respective fates alone…
Anyways, I got accepted to my study abroad program today, which means I’m going to China in the fall! But for right now I’m busy filling out travel forms and what not, looking forward to the summer when I can (maybe) join you in boredom.

Oh, James, I agree! I have so much to do–although I do not have an added load of getting ready for China (which is so exciting!). Breanna, I get easily bored, too. I used to bother my siblings all the time when they were doing school 😀 Sometimes I would hide Andrea’s pleasure books (like Nancy Drew) just so she would play with me 😉 Sorry, Andrea! I did not know the pleasures of reading then!

Too bad you and Linnea don’t live closer. She’s bored too.

Linnea used to do the same thing to me, Audrey…. until she realized that if she did it I would turn into a monster. RAWR!

Speaking of boredom, being the busy students we are, James and I are seldom bored during the school year. So one time, during a summer or Christmas break, James came to me and said, “Emily, do you ever feel like you really need to be doing something, but there is nothing to do?” I pondered this predicament for a moment, and finally came up with a conclusion: “I think it’s called boredom,” I said. We both just laughed.

An interesting thing about being busy is that you can think of a few dozen things you would rather be doing. Then, when a time comes when you are not being made to do anything, many of the things you wanted to do earlier suddenly seem like way too much work. The few things that still seem appealing, then, take way less time than you expected they would. Suddenly, you are bored!

When I was quite young, I used to go tell my mom whenever I was bored. Then she would say, “Okay, why don’t you help me clean this room or do that chore?” I quickly learned how not to be bored!

Here are some suggestions for keeping yourself from boredom:
1) Read a good book.
2) Start doing some chores that you don’t have to do. When doing something you don’t like to do, something will inevitably come to mind that you would rather be doing. Then, when you are done doing the chore, you can go do it!
3) Or, if you’ve tried both of those things and still have extra time on your hands, go sneak up on all the busy people in the house with a camera. Take pictures of them unawares, then quickly post them on the blog before they can delete them from the camera. Heeheehee.
4) Another suggestion is to do what our older brothers did and ponder extremely serious matters, like hippogriffs and ticket stubs.
5) Practice your evil laugh. Mwahaha!
6) Better yet, form a secret society with only you in it. Then, take over the world! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
7) If you are still bored after that, it is time to take more drastic measures. Try exercising your imagination, perhaps by making a list of ridiculous things to do the next time you get bored.

Getting bored must be a young person thing, for I seldom have that kind of feeling. Are you sure that it is boredom and not just anticipation, wondering what will come next? Grandpa Tom

Wow, I didn’t know that the topic of boredom could conjure up such interesting and deep thoughts!
