1. Janice, Emily and Linnea went to Cherokee 3 weeks ago to MTW’s camp for missionaries. It was interesting because we had to walk a ways to the bathroom, down a hill. (Note: that’s the first thing that comes to my mind 🙂 ) Anyway. . .we did a VBS in the mornings for a day care center. In the afternoons we visited with the elderly at a nursing home. I taught the Bible lesson at the VBS on Thursday and Friday. I was only supposed to do it on Thursday, but because of rain, their field trip was canceled so we went back Friday. So I just did a recap/review of all the lessons. We had a very large team – 21 people.
2.We did lots of celebrating when we got back with birthdays and an anniversary.
3. On Thursday, James had his wisdom teeth out.
4. After church today, James left to go to Nashville. He’s going to be a counselor at Kings Mountain Camp – Franklin Classical School’s camp. When he gets back we take him to school.
5. The girls and I went to Desiring God Church tonight to tell about the mission trip. Five people from that church went with us on our team. We made some great new friends from that church.
I am so glad all went well on the trip! We got your letter, and it looks like you had a good time. I am so glad James gets to go to this camp! I had no idea. Is this a sudden turn of events or has it been planned for a while?
We have been up to a lot the past few weeks:
August 4-9 my Dad, Mom, Andrea and I went up to DE to visit with my grandparents on my Mom’s side. Before that Andrea was house sitting for 2 weeks. On our trip to DE we got to see the Brauers for a little bit, too. That was nice.
We got back late on the 10th, and the next morning Andrea had to work. I worked in the Tuck Shoppe a little bit, and just relaxed.
That Friday, August 14, we went to St. Louis to see Seth for the weekend. We visited with him and met his friends–very fun! We also went to the Botanical Gardens which was beautiful. We left yesterday (Sunday) to come back home. But Seth came down with us! He was invited by his college professor for a faculty-alumni event that takes place at Covenant. He flies back tomorrow.
Things are happening everywhere. Judy and I just got back from a weekend with the skipbo group. We rented a house near Blarisville, GA. We had a relaxing time, but are glad to be home now. Dad
Things are busy here (Pennsylvania) too. During the week Nathan was here (last week) Katie had an end of summer party for her friends, many of which are going or have now gone off to college. We had over twenty young people either from our church youth group, Katie’s adopted youth group (another church), or the home school coop. In addition one of the exchange students from two years ago was here too. Then the next day we went to NYC. Then we picked up Jenney. Then we had fun and games until Nathan had to leave on Saturday.

Wow! Sounds like everyone has been quite busy. Speaking of busy, please pray for me as I am trying to figure out how to fit in my dissertation with my crazy work load at IR. I am running out of time.
People have been quite busy! Audrey, James’ oral surgery was something he had needed for a while. Remember they all had dentist appointments? The dentist said he really needed to get his out very soon. So I scheduled it right away so he could be totally healed before school began.
When we went to Cherokee the girls and I made friends with a family – the Balbuena’s. Fred is a Philippino and the assistant pastor at Desiring God Church. Lori, the mom, is my age and reminds me so much of Mom. And the have two daughters who were there. Emily and Linnea really liked them. They also have two older sons – adopted from the Philippines. Lori is not Philippino – she’s a Minnesotan.
Sounds like all the business is quite good for the most part!
I am so glad you could find some good friends. Do the Balbuenas live close to you all? How old are their girls?
I am getting over sinusitis. I’m going to be housesitting for my pastor and his wife for the first two and a half weeks of September. And this year I’ll be helping out with a Sunday School class. I don’t think I’ll be teaching, just an assistant.

Katie, how did your party go?
Did the men or women win more skipbo games this time around?
Katie Balbuena is 4 days older than me, so she is 17. And I believe Karissa Balbuena is 13.
That’s cool that they are so close in age to you girls.
