Things are, for the most part, going well here at The Stony Brook School. I’ve been very well received, encouraged, and supported by the faculty and staff which has made the move here, and assimilation into life here, very much smoother.
Teaching Spanish has been fun and challenging. I very much enjoy going through the textbooks to understand how they present the Spanish langauge and then trying to help the students learn it as well. I certainly have a lot to learn about teaching, but I feel that I have many friends and helping hands among the faculty here. It’s also been nice to get to know the students and feel that I’m getting along decently (if not well).
One of the biggest teaching challenges has been my Spanish 3 class. They are the youngest aged class I teach, and, since Stony Brook only requires three years of a foreign language, I also have quite a few students that would really rather not be there. Add to this that I (apparnetly) have some very, and I quote, “obnoxious” students, it is an exceedingly difficult class to manage–I often do not look forward to going to this class. However, I know that my Sovereign and Loving Heavenly Father gave me this particular class, and so I will trust that he knows what he’s doing and I will strive to be faithful as a teacher. As I have thought, and as my department chair pointed out, through this experience I will likely learn many things about teaching sooner than I might otherwise learn them.
I appreciate your prayers and encouragement!

We keep praying for you. The young “obnoxious” ones probably are insecure and need to know they will be held to certain expectations in a good way which I am sure you are doing. Glad you are having fun
I am sure you are a positive influence on the obnoxious ones and are blessing their lives in ways unbeknown to you… yet.
We pray that God will give you wisdom and ability to reach all of your students. Grandpa Tom & Grandma Judy
I think you are a good teacher, Micah! I am taking ballroom class at Covenant College, and none of the guys I have danced with are as good as you are–either at dancing or at teaching the dance!
I am glad you are well-supported. I’m praying for you!I think you’re a great teacher and leader, too.
Amen.
