Busy, busy!

by Audrey on September 7, 2008

This semester looks like it will be quite busy, yet good. It is so difficult to weigh how long I should spend with people and how long studying. I do enjoy both greatly. I am taking German Literature II; Cultural Heritage of the West I; Christian Doctrine I; Physical Education II; Introduction to Literature; Voice Lessons; Introduction to Interdisciplinary Studies;Intercultural Experience. Plus, this week is the last week of my online Sociology course I started this summer (almost done!).

So, here is my general schedule:

Classes, working at the Covenant College bookstore (8-10 hours), studying, Wednesday night small group (which I enjoy greatly), ballroom dancing club (hopefully!) and spending time with friends. Then, on Sunday I rest from studying…ahhh…

In two weekends I will be going on a retreat with my hall in Pigeon Forge, TN. I am very excited about this!

So, James, what classes are you taking at Wake Forrest? How is life there?

Oh, I met Mary Frances, and she is quite nice. I hope I can get to know her better.

You are taking eight classes? How many credits do these classes amount to?

With the almost-finished Sociology course, and the 1/4 done Intercultural experience done, I am taking 21 credits! But once the sociology course is done it will be 18, and I will work on the Cross-cultural over fall break, which will bring it down to 15. Complicated, eh? 😉

Sorry I haven’t posted much about life at Wake Forest yet… I’ve been quite busy myself 🙂

Audrey, I experience some of the same dilemmas in terms of balancing my social life and studying life. Right now I’m taking Introduction to Linguistics, Elementary Chinese I, Calculus with Analytic Geometry I, and History of the Middle East, and I’ll start the 1-hour Exercise for Health course in mid-October. I’m really enjoying my classes a lot (well, not math so much) but find it hard to study as much as I need to and be involved in campus life as well. I think I’ll be joining a men’s bible study with RUF (Reformed University Fellowship) and possibly joining Wake’s club gymnastics team (Tuesdays and Thursdays). My roommate and I are trying to work out in the gym every day as well.

In short, life at Wake has been a lot of fun, but a lot of work; I’m learning a lot–both academically and otherwise–but stressing out quite a bit too.

I’m planning to take some pictures of the campus soon, so hopefully I’ll be posting those on the blog in these next few days.

Yes, it is nice to hear about your experience there…I am also glad I am not the only one who is overwhelmed with this new environment of school 🙂

Wow Audrey! That is a lot of credits and it is complicated. Thanks for the update James. I have such a big workload at work that I often feel like I am unsociable because I can’t meet my deadlines. So, I understand that dilemma.

Balancing studies and social life can be very difficult, especially in the beginning or with a particularly heavy load, but you’ll do it, both of you.

Audrey has been coming home on Saturdays to study. That has been nice to have her around here.
