Work Update

by micah on March 23, 2006

Well, I haven’t written anything on the blog for a while, so I guess it’s about time to write something.

Regarding work, some of you know that I’m increasingly disliking my work at T.G.I. Friday’s. While I enjoy working with some of my coworkers, the work entails running around all day interacting with guests from 0 to 3 minutes, and then moving on the the next guests. It’s not very fulfilling – I’d rather interact with people on a more significant level. In any case, I’m not really making enough money to support myself – so I’m looking for another job.

The interpreter job at Erlanger seems to be caught somewhere in the twilight zone of beurocracy (sp?). I called last Monday (when I was told they might have an answer for me), and they answered, “We have our budget, but can’t say yet whether we’re allowed to hire an interpreter,” (at least, that’s the general message I was given).

On another note, there is an administrative assistant position available at Rock Creek Presbyterian Church (aka Nathan’s church) that is only part time but pays very well. The job would entail organizing, creating systems to establish order, helping the pastor in any way necessary, managing calanders and information, keeping information flowing to the congregation, coordinating volunteer opportunities, and various other things. I’m really excited about this job, as it would allow me to interact significantly with many different people, use a wide range of my gifts (I think), challenge me in many ways, and show me more of how a church functions here in the U.S. I think I may be offered the job, and am excited about the prospect of it.
