London – Day 7

Monday, June 2

Rather than take the tube to our destination this morning, we headed straight to King’s Cross Station to take a train to Cambridge. The ride itself was uneventful, but before departure we got to see Platform Nine and Three-quarters, the renowned brick wall from Harry Potter (our platform was number nine). We spent all day in Cambridge, a town much like London, but far more quaint and far less busy and crowded. In fact, it was like a British version of Franklin, TN, with its small alleyways and paved cobblestone roads, its history, and its Starbucks (which are just as popular in England, by the by). All the buildings in Cambridge had fine detail and well-planned architecture, displaying a whole history of architecture with buildings and walls from the 14h, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, even 19th centuries, all right there! The university itself was just as beautiful and quaint, but grander. We saw Trinity College, King’s Cross, and the room Isaac Newton had! Dr. Grant told us the professors often room in the same dormitories as their students, moving education to a more personal level. In the evening, we attended a Vespers service at King’s College Chapel, yet another gloriously beautiful session of praise to God in yet another gloriously beautiful sanctuary, ceilings soaring to the heavens above. If I can convince my family, I think I might like to live in Cambridge someday (or at least go to graduate school there)!.
