Sunday, June 1
We returned to St. Paul’s this morning to attend its Matins service. The harmonious voices of the choir were truly glorious. The message wasn’t entirely Biblical (being Church of England, hence a works-based message), but the singing lifted the eyes and heart heavenward, as does the very architecture of the cathedral.
We next visited the British Museum, which contained more than could be seen in a week. Nevertheless, we saw a vast array of statues, carvings, inscriptions, relics, jewels, cloths, and other such items, from the cultures of Assyria, Babylon, Greece, Africa, China, Japan, Nubia, etc. Some favourites of mine were some Assyrian carvings from the palace of Nebuchadnezzar (the very ones Jonah would have seen), the Elgin Marbles of Greece, and the Rosetta Stone. Perhaps I’ll have to come back and make another visit!
I went to a nearby pub with Will and Daniel, and–though a bit under the weather–I truly enjoyed our conversations. As Daniel noted, only in a class as tight as ours could a jock, a musician, and a nerd all sit down and have a pint and have true fellowship (I was the nerd, by the by). I will miss this fellowship sorely when I go off to college, but I thank God for the time I had with these amazing 24 servants of Christ!

- A Lamborghini outside the pub where Daniel, Will, and I ate
- The Elgin Marbles of Greece
- An Egyptian tomb with hieroglyphics all over
- A tablet with cuneiform script (I believe this is Assyrian)
- The British Museum, from the outside
- This is our bedroom in our hotel
- Some ancient Asian script (Hindi, maybe?)
- Some more unknown writing (can you tell I like languages yet?)
- Part of the Rosetta Stone (behind glass–sorry for the reflection)

I’d love to go to this museum.
It seems to me that one could spend an awful lot of time at most museums. There is so much to be learned! And, I don’t think you are a nerd 🙂
A pint of what??
A pint of beer–I had eaten lunch earlier though, so I actually didn’t order anything 🙂
