Here is a description I’ve made up that I like.
The mailbox stood sweltering in the mid-afternoon sun. Every hour or so, a chip of black paint would crack off and fall to the sidewalk beneath, where chips of paint surrounded the mailbox post like black dandruff.

very good!
I like the description. I like the connection you made between the paint detritus and dandruff. The imagery of the dandruff strengthens the idea of neglect.
I can see it in my mind. Is this something you saw one time?
I wrote it as part of an assignment for a creative writing course last year. I’m not sure how I came up with the image. I was describing an old neighborhood, so I guess peeling paint came to my mind.
I like your idea about the dandruff, Seth. I hadn’t thought of that!
Neat!
