A Silly Poem

by Gary on June 15, 2020

A number of years ago I was eating at Huddle House with some of our children. As I looked across and down the road I saw the sign for Taco Bell. Inspiration (or something!) hit me and in a few minutes I came up with the following poem called “Signs”:

Oh sign that’s shining in the night
That beckons me with luring light
To satisfy my hunger pain:
Those tacos now don’t seem so plain!

Oh sign that blinded me with light
And falsely summoned me tonight–
Those burritos aren’t so yummy
When they’re sitting in your tummy.

If we could rid the world of signs
That flaunt enticing shrewd designs…
Because, of course, it’s not my fault!
The sign that shines did me assault!

I see another sparkling sign–
I do believe it’s quite benign–
Convincing me to stop and eat–
But this time I’ll get something sweet!

It’s a silly poem, but there is a deeper meaning.

I remember that day! It is a well-written poem. It seems to me that the meaning is something to this affect: beware of being manipulated by things that like look nice. What does everyone else think?
