The Building of a House

by Jannylynn on December 8, 2006

Here I will keep pictures of the progress of building our house. I will add to it each week.

1-5-07: this week they began construction of the garages and the floor joists.

1-9-07 By last Friday the First Floor was framed and on Monday they put up the floor joists for the second floor

1-9-07 Today they are almost finished with the second floor. In the foreground to the right are the roof trusses, which will go up next. They put those up with a crane so I hope I can catch when they do that. The crew got a kick out of getting in the picture.

1-11-07: The house looked like this all day yesterday and this morning when I walked Rocky.

1-11-07: I had wanted to get a picture of the crane lifting the trusses to the roof, but I missed it. When the girls and I walked Rocky after lunch it was all done.

1-14-07 On Friday and Saturday they roofed the house and put a black sealing compound on the bottom of the foundation brick.

2-7-07: Today they began bricking the house. I see from the picture that they have put up some insulation in the garage. We have not gone in the house in a while because it is so muddy.

Below: They washed the house and finished putting in the septic, which went in the front as well as the back. Much to our dismay they took out more trees in the front yard for the septic. It looks bare. We still have quite a lot in the back, though and I think they are finished with the septic system.

They have painted and put in the staircase spindles.

We go by about 2 or 3 times a day. Since we have to walk Rocky anyway, its a good excuse. Plus I drive by sometimes when I’m on my way somewhere. I added a picture. I think they are mostly done clearing the lot. They may finish up on Monday.

This is the week of January 1, 2007. More materials have arrived at the construction site. Today we saw some people there sealing the foundation.

Audrey January 4, 2007 at 7:16 pm

Wow, they are going fast! When do you expect you will be able to move in?

Reply

The closing is set for sometime in April….probably late in April. I added a picture.

It’s exciting how the house is taking shape before your (and our) very eyes.

It is fun to watch. We got a nail in a tire, no doubt from driving by the work site.

I like that your house will be bordered by pine trees in the back.

janice January 11, 2007 at 1:22 pm

By lunch time today the roof trusses were up. I really wanted to get a picture of the crane lifting them up, but I missed it. Oh well. I posted 2 new pictures.

I put more pictures on to show the roofing. I also gave a different view of the house since I had always posted a picture taken from the driveway side. This week they are supposed to brick the house.

Today (1-17-07) The plumbers came to lay pipes and our house got covered in plastic. Now that the plastic is on, they can do the brick work. But no bricks have arrived yet.

What is the projected date your home will be finished and ready to move in?

Reply

janice January 17, 2007 at 10:45 pm

They said our closing date is scheduled for April, but no date has been set. I would guess that it will be the last day of April or thereabouts.

Reply

David January 23, 2007 at 8:31 pm

Looks good. I’m glad you take these pictures as I haven’t been able to see the house lately.

Reply

janice February 4, 2007 at 9:10 am

2-4-07 Well, the house has been sitting quietly for a week or two, but yesterday men put up some scaffolding, which means they are getting ready to brick. The brick has not arrived yet, but I guess it will soon. I added a picture.

2-5-07 A truck with a crane arm delivers the drywall and puts it bundle by bundle through what will be James’ bedroom window. Someone inside the house pulls the dry wall sheet by sheet into room.

Reply

I posted a new picture. The front and garage side are all bricked, now they are working on the other side. The back will not be bricked, but has a new siding called hardy plank, which is made of concrete.

Reply

Audrey February 21, 2007 at 7:19 am

it almost looks inhabitable! I like the brick color. Do you all like it?

Reply

janice February 21, 2007 at 8:36 am

Yes, we like the color. They started to do the drywall yesterday.
