Below are some current pictures of our garden here in Georgia. We’ve been having trouble with some kind of animal digging through the beds. Whatever it is has also been munching on our carrots 🙁 Anybody have experience with how to handle such a varmint?
A summary of our garden. We planted tomatoes (Big Red variety), Cherry tomatoes, potatoes, bush beans, peppers, okra, butternut squash, zucchini, carrots, garlic, onions, and spinach. The last three have already been harvested.
These are the bush beans. We have used the Black Valentine variety, and they have proven to be quite productive.
Potatoes are planted in the containers in the front. Zucchini is planted in the bed behind them (they are just about done), and there are four pepper plants in the bed behind that one.

Cherry tomato plants. This variety has always done really well in our garden. They’ve already produced several hundred tomatoes.

A tomato from the Big Red plants. These plants have been very slow producers.
Okra plants. I grew them from seed and then transplanted them, even though I had read that Okra plants don’t like being transplanted. I see now that this is true, as the plants are not doing as well as they did last year.
Harvested onions. We’ve planted them a number of years in a row, but haven’t been able to get them to grow as big as you find in the grocery stores. This year, I added some sulfur to the soil to make it more acidic, and the average size seems to be bigger than last year, as I recall, but still rather small.
Harvested garlic in a make-shift garlic holder. It is made out of plastic screening sewed together. At the bottom, there is an opening to remove the garlic, but there is an elastic band that keeps the garlic from falling out. It was my idea to use the plastic screening and roll it into a cylindrical shape. When duct tape failed to keep everything together, Mom suggested sewing the screen. She also suggested the elastic band. Thanks Mom!

I wish my garden looked like this. Mine’s kind of pathetic. 🙁
I should mention, though, that while I did do most of the work to get the garden started this year, my parents and Andrea did most of the work to keep it going.
