Ides plus 2 of November

by Woody on November 15, 2006

Just noticed that it has been some time since my last post (although I do acknowledge a few encouragements recently to do so!) Sometimes the Lord breaks through my sense of reality and composure to remind me I am made of dust and that I have limitations. I have had borderline to high blood pressure for some time and have not cooperated with my physician by taking a choleserol or blood pressure reducing medication. Furthermore, I continue to balance a challenging job with serving on several boards at church, running a part-time business with Sharon, Chairing a community service organization, and from time to time doing a few things around the house and with the family. I think I may have to find a way to say “no” to something but don’t know which one. Sharon and I get frequent encoragements to serve in one ministry or another but what I’d really like to do is get into a discipleship pack with some folks and carry the battle to the gates of hades (Matthew 16:18).

Sounds busy, but it sounds like the Lord has given you many opportunities! It is nice to hear from you, I agree:)

it does sound like you’re very busy! Is there a discipleship group at your church?

Micah:
It seems to me there is need for more discipleship. For instance we do a good job of “qualifing” church leaders but have limited emphasis in “training” to be good disciplers or equippers of the membership to build up their faith and/or enable them to minister to do the work God has in mind for them to do. Let me Quick to say that my particular church is not unique. I think it common to think of church as a place where I and my family can be fed rather than how can the church help me extend the kingdom of God where I live and work.

By the way, a new challenge. The park association had a project to protect the sides of a creek running through the park against errosion. Well, the large concrete blocks we got to place in the bank did not have sufficient protection from the large amount of water running through our normal quiet creek during a recent heavy rain. It has discouraged some and now I have (as president) stepped in to coordinate what needs to be done and to make sure it is done right. So it seems God has me here at this time to solve this problem and help keep neighbors and community folks together.

Life is full of surprises. Praise the Lord who helps us in all our needs. He is soverign in all matters and is working them out for His Glory!
