Greetings. Since Sandy is in the news lately I thought I’d report on her visit to our area. I will say at the start this storm was very unkind to a lot of folks but thankfully, in our area we experienced mostly loss of electric power.
In anticipation of Sandy’s call Sharon and I removed a lot of stuff we had on our basement floor. The reason was if we lost power our sump pump would not be able to keep the basement dry as sometimes in heavy rains we do have seepage. I also checked and fueled up a number of oil lamps. Sharon and Katie knew when the storm came I would not be at home which is the case for most of the storms that come here.
On Monday I was monitoring the storm in the hospital when it made landfall. We are located 135 miles from Atlantic City, NJ. We did a number of things in preparation such as setting out battery operated lamps and extension cords to connect to outlets serviced by the emergency generator. The storm hit land about 8:00 PM. At 9:00pm the hospital lost power. It is Wednesday night now and the power is still out. The estimate is power will be restored sometime tomorrow. I stayed at the hospital overnight making sure all systems worked as needed and setting up equipment as requested. On Tuesday I was back in the afternoon and oversaw operations until 9:00pm. Since I knew last night the power will not be restored until Thursday and I can rely on my staff to handle things as they are, my boss told me not to come in today so I got some rest and I had time to do some things around the house.
We anticipated more flooding and wind damage but we are glad it did not happen. Many folks around us do not have power but flooding did not happen here. Not so in New Jersey and New York. We pray for those displaced and who suffered loss.

Just so it is clear, we did not loose power at our house.
Thanks for the update Woody. So, tell us about what happened with your house. Is your basement high and dry?
The basement is fine, with no water getting in at all.
Thanks for the update, Woody. I was wondering how things were with you all concerning the storm.
Sounds like a lot of work has gone into storm-prep! Thanks for letting us know how things are.
Glad things turned out well. We will continue praying as now the nor’easter is heading that way.
