Defense

Thank you everybody for praying for me. Your prayers helped me to persevere to the end. I was able to speak fluidly, which was one thing I was worried about not doing. During the defense I tensed up somewhat when there was a question that I had difficulty answering, but there were other questions that I felt comfortable answering. Overall, the giving of the talk and defending afterward were enjoyable experiences. In fact, starting on Sunday, I was actually excited about the questions that my committee members might ask me. On Sunday evening I sent my adviser my talk to have a one last revision and he said that the slides were excellent and concise and that I had nothing to worry about.

My mom and Andrea and Audrey were able to come up for my defense. I practiced my talk in front of them twice on Sunday, and that was a big help. It was good to have them with me. I am very thankful to God for his faithfulness to me during these past five and a half years. I am also very thankful to those who have been praying for me.

So glad we were able to be with you. It was fun even though we did not fully understand everything you were talking about( well actually hardly anything). You were very professional and clear, had good eye contact and I thought you handled the professor’s question very well. Some comments from your friends afterward were that you are an even keel guy, never being stressed about your work, leaving time for social interaction and they were amazed at how many people you know. Brian said no matter where he went (even outside of St Louis) he seemed to find people who knew you. Well done.
God’s presence and the prayers of his people were very evident.

It was fun sitting in on the practices and the real thing! I enjoyed meeting your friends and your committee members (even talking some German with your Dutch adviser!). Can’t wait to see you in a few days!

I am soooo happy for you Seth! You have done a good job. It was so fun being a part of this experience with you. It was cool to see how your friends came to support you at the defense, too.
