I love my new job! I get to be with children all day, teaching German, learning to change diapers, and trying to learn the ropes of potty training with no experience in it at all! Quite an adventure…Here is a list of things my job entails
- Teaching German (10-20 minutes at a time) to the pre-primary class (ages 1-2), primary class (3-5), and lower elementary class (6-8)
- Substituting for the teachers that can’t make it to work (there is a lot of sickness going around right now, so I’ve had to do a lot of substituting) which includes: potty training, diaper changing, helping kids eat, disciplining kids, playing with kids and more!
- Helping to make materials for the lessons the children do (lots of pasting, laminating, and cutting)
- Floating––seeing if anyone needs help in their classroom and filling in where I can
- Greeting the children in the morning, and helping them out to, for example, hang up their backpacks (in the case of very small kids)
I’m sure I didn’t cover everything, but it is very versatile, I like the people I work with and it has been a huge answer to prayer! I’ve not minded the 2 hour-round trip commute everyday at all––I listen to cool things like Lord of the Rings and music. Often I am awe-struck at how the Lord has provided the seemingly perfect job for me at this point in my life. There are certainly challenges, and times when I don’t want to go to work––but overall, I love it!

Here are a few funny quotes from the kids:
Me: “What is one of the rules for German lesson?” Child: “We do not touch pocketknives.” Don’t know where that came from!
Child: “Ms. Audrey! I got new shoes and they go faster!”
Child: “Ms. Audrey, I can climb up the gym [a dome-like climbing thing in the playground] by myself! It’s a miracle!”
I’m sure there are more, I just can’t think of them now 😀

I enjoy hearing the stories you bring back. I’m so glad you enjoy your job!
Yay! So glad you like it! Sounds like a very fun place to work.
Wunderbar! I like the miracle quote the best. It really cracked me up; but the child is right, it really is a miracle.
Your job sounds like a lot of fun – and I love the quotes! What is the German for “pocketknife,” I wonder…?
Taschenmesser
I’m so glad you are having a good time–and getting paid for it!
It sounds like a lot of fun and a great experience for you.
