Recently, as I have been conversing with people at church, or with aquaintances from Covenant College, many people have been asking me what I have been doing. My first answer is “A LOT” of things here and there. I’ve been telling people that I’m putting my IDS (i.e. Inter-disciplinary Studies) major into practice 🙂
1) So, I’ve been working at Rock Creek Fellowship and enjoying it. It is also encouraging because everyone seems to be very pleased with my work, all of which seems to be very helpful to them – so I’m pleased.
2) I’ve been working at Covenant about 5-10 hours/week upgrading a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet I made for the housekeeping department to keep track of their work study students.
3) I’ve been transcribing interviews for my dad.
4) I’ve been tinkering with music a little more – jotting down musical ideas as they come to me and “doodling” at the piano more often. This was inspired mostly by the fact that I have been (and am still) writing four-part harmony to a melody Seth, Andrea, Audrey and I wrote to Psalm 42 for my parents.
5) During the summer, our church offered something like a tutoring program to explore the prospects of continuing during the Fall – which we are going to do and which I will be participating in. There will be a time of tutoring and helping kids with their homework followed by some sports/playing. The idea is to minister to kids in our own church while building community with neighbors from the church’s neighborhood.
6) I translated a Spanish document into English for a friend who is finishing a project in graduate school.
7) At the beginning of the semester, Audrey and I were avidly watching birds and building up our yard to attract them. We kind of took a break during the summer, but will pick up again this Fall.
8) And I have a couple of other lingering projects to finish as well.
My mom also suggested to me that I put my creativity to (financially) productive use and try selling woodburnings at Covenant. I may well try this. I have realized that I REALLY love making/creating things and have been pondering the possibility of developing my creativity during the next several months, since I am “only” working part-time at Rock Creek Fellowship.
Somehow, my Interdisciplinary was quite appropriate!
P.S. I recently purchased a decent computer program that enables me to write down music, print it, and even export it as an audio file, so I’ll try to share my music thoughts every now and then.

Micah, it is nice to see what you are doing all in one place, like, all down on the paper, so to speak. I think it all sounds very nice (especially #7)!

Low Temp! It seems that you have a world of possibilities before you, and before you know it, I suspect, you will be living in all parts of the world simultaneously 🙂
