Teaching Update 3

by sejwa on July 31, 2011

By God’s grace and through the help of your prayers this past week of teaching was better than the first. I still struggled to keep up with the lectures, but I was able to sleep well (except for Thursday night when I had to stay up late to finish preparing the exam), and I have had a more positive attitude. I find myself singing hymns and spiritual songs on my way to class.

On Thursday I had the students fill out an anonymous questionnaire to evaluate my teaching. Most people said that they wanted me to focus more on explaining concepts than going through mathematical derivations. A number of students also said that I needed to relax and be more confident. One student wrote, “RELAX.” Apparently my nervousness shows a bit too much and it makes students feel uncomfortable. So, the item of prayer for this week is that I would be able to be relaxed and more confident in my teaching. Thank you for your prayers!

Yay! Glad to hear it’s going better. I’ll pray for relaxation, confidence and a better feel for what they need to know/do to learn. Maybe you should do something funny at the beginning of next class, or make a joke about how you need to relax or something 😀

I’m so glad you’re sleeping better and having a better outlook. The questionnaire was a great idea. You are in my prayers!
