Stephanie and I began our married life with an interesting adventure. When we left from the church, we drove downtown to the River Walk where we planned to meet the photographer to take some more wedding pictures (we had had many picnics and dates at the River Walk in the past so we really wanted to get pictures there in our wedding attire).
When we arrived downtown we didn’t have to wait long for the photographer to arrive. We started walking down to the riverside when all of a sudden we heard a moan/groan and we saw a man lying on the ground by a bench. Take into account that it’s over 90° and humid and this man is in the sun! Stephanie was particularly concerned so I went up to the man. He was mostly unconscious and mostly unresponsive and seemed to be in very bad condition. So I called 911.
About 5 minutes later, a policeman drove up in some kind of police golf cart. He greeted me and Stephanie and I filled him in on the man. The policeman examined the man and determined that he was in very bad shape. He said he would take care of the man and call for medical help for him (he called an ambulance for him). So Stephanie and I went on with our photo shoot 😀
We walked along the River Walk and got many a picture and just enjoyed the wonderful weather we had to take these pictures (the original forecast for that weekend was severe thunderstorms!). Anyway, on our way back, we saw another man who was passed out on a bench. He had a bag of beer and some cigarettes next to him. I thought he was probably just passed out from drinking, and he was actually in the shade. Yet, we didn’t want to just leave the man there ignored by most people, so I called 911 again!
We were done with taking pictures, so the photographer left and Stephanie and I waited for the police to come again. The very same policeman came 😀 and when he saw us he said something like “you guys are going to have a whole lot of adventures” 😀 He also said he was just about to eat some lunch when he got the second call, but when he saw us again (still in our wedding attire), he commented that we probably wanted to get on our way to our honeymoon (which we did). We directed the policeman to where the man was passed out on the bench and we left. Stephanie said, “let’s not look to the left or to the right so we can leave”!
So that was our very first adventure as a married couple!
There is a small but interesting part B to this story, but it happens later, so I’ll save it for another post 😉

So unusual!!
Wow! That IS a very interesting adventure.
Fancy meeting two unconscious gentlemen in such a short span of time! Rather humorous, nonetheless… I’m glad you made it out safely!
Wow!!
Amazing! Sounds like a bit of a rough place. Did you ever find it so before?
Funny! I think the most hilarious thing is that these things happened while you were in wedding attire!
It is interesting to note that no one else had called for help for these people before you got there. I hope you are able to somehow keep up with the policeman. You and Stephanie are good neighbors.
