Successful defense!

by Gary on October 15, 2010

This morning I successfully defended my dissertation. It lasted about an hour and forty minutes, after which they deliberated. My advisor came out to get me and the first thing he said was, “Congratulations Dr. Waldecker.”
Thanks for your prayers!
They gave me a few edits, but not very much. They all said I did a great job, and seemed to enjoy talking about the dissertation.

What I have left is to make the edits. I think I can do it in a day. Then pay someone to proof read it and make sure there are no formatting mistakes. There are some forms I have to fill out. And pay some kind of fee. I think that’s all.

Our congratulations on a successful conclusion of a very long process. We know that you are relieved to have that milestone behind you. Now what is your schedule for the future? Dad & Judy

Congrats Gary! I know you worked very hard and defended probably the most thorough dissertation Dave and Clyde ever presided over. You deserve to celebrate!

Now our focus is on visiting some churches–mostly after Christmas– and hopefully Phyllis and I will be able to start traveling around Latin America in late Spring. Next week I go to Bogota for a week. I’m probably going to preach in our home church on the 31st. Then I speak at the MTW Global Missions Conference the first week of November (it’s here in Chattanooga this year). Then we visit a church in Delaware in mid November. Then Thanksgiving at Dad and Judy’s house.

I’m so glad for you, Dad! It has been cool to see that, even though it has been a stressful process, you have trusted God the whole time. It’s been a good witness to me!
