My Week So Far

by Emily on July 7, 2010

On Sunday, I slept in until 10 something, which is crazily late for me. We had just gotten back from Chattanooga late the night before, and I guess I was tired. Most of the day, I sat in bed and read The Song of the Wanderer, by Bruce Coville, which I finished that afternoon. James went to a friend’s house that evening, where a bunch of his friends shot bottle rockets at each other. Boys. 🙄 While he was there, the rest of us ate pizza, did sparklers, and watched Indiana Jones. It was a good 4th.

On Monday, I went to horseback riding in the morning. It went really well. My teacher was so happy that she doesn’t have to teach me a bunch of beginner stuff. Me too! 😀 During the lesson, as I was getting really good at my 20-meter circles, two monstrous, green tractors came across the field at the dressage arena. The horse didn’t like them. He took off running (Yes, I was on him), but I managed to calm him down. My teacher took us into the jumping arena, where there was a taller fence and another horse, both of which should make my horse feel safer. He was fine for a little while, but as I was cantering, from the one side came the monstrous, green tractors, again, and from the other came the other horse and rider, flying at full speed over a high jump. The horse didn’t like that either. This time I was prepared, and I didn’t let him run…so he bucked. Poor thing! He was so scared. Even so, he was not able to break my record of never falling off a horse.  (Apparently, to ride horses for three years and not have fallen off once is a rare thing.)

Later that day, we went to Nashville Shores, which is a small water park on Percy Priest Lake.

Yesterday, I went to work for the office at my school, as a volunteer job. I just sat at a desk and answered phone calls. As there weren’t very many phone calls, I just read Dark Whispers, by Bruce Coville, most of the time. It was a good thing I forgot to bring my lunch, yesterday, because then Mom got me Quiznos. Mmmmm…. 😛 Later, we went to go buy a new wireless router to replace our 7- or 8-year-old one. The internet now officially works GREAT! We watched the second Indiana Jones last night.

Today… we shall see what happens…

Toodles,

Emily

Cool! I’m glad you kept your record. Was it fun being bucked?

Good job staying on the horse! I got bucked off a horse once. It was not fun, but I like having it on my list of things that have happened to me 😀 How far are you in the third Bruce Coville book?

Micah, I wouldn’t necessarily call it fun. It was a bit scary, mostly because I didn’t know the horse. I had just met him that day. One horse I used to ride a lot was Becall, and when she bucked, it was just fine, because I knew when to expect it and how to calm her down.

I remember the first time I was bucked. I was pretty excited about it afterward. I thought, “Wow! I just got bucked by a horse, and I lived to tell about it! I even remembered to pull her head up.” 🙂

I’m glad I’ve been able to keep busy, lately.

Sounds like you’re having fun! Yeah, good job staying on the horse. I can’t say that I have never fallen off a horse.
