Yesterday I smelled a strange odor in my apartment. It was similar to the odor given off after one strikes a match. I called Laclede Gas, and they sent someone to check it out. The gas detector didn’t pick up any signal inside the apartment, but when the guy checked some of the pipes in the basement, he discovered several places where the gas was leaking. He said that the leak was bad and that it was a good thing I called. Yikes!
Another strange occurrence is that in the past two weeks or so we have found three dead squirrels ( cousins to the three blind mice?) around our apartment building. My roommate and I managed to push one into a trash bag today and put it in one of the dumpsters outside. We told our land-lady, and she is going to investigate the problem.
The dead squirrels combined with the gas leak have given me an ominous feeling. Please pray for our safety and that these problems would be fixed.

I’ll pray. Sounds like a strange combination and adventure.
maybe the gas killed the squirrels?
I thought of that possibility, too, Uncle Alan. Maybe there was a small leak into the outside and the squirrels got a high from smelling the fumes and then died. I would imagine, though, if that were true, that they would all die on the same side of the building, wherever the leak is, unless there are multiple leaks.
hmm. I’ll pray for your safety.
wow yea, me too
Wow!! Not good
So, did they fix the leaks?
I’ll be praying
After two tries, the leaks are fixed. The gas pipes for the other apartments are also in the basement, and it is possible that those could have small leaks, too; but I haven’t smelled any more gas odors in the apartment.
We found one more dead squirrel in front of our apartment building. We haven’t seen any more dead ones for about a week, though.
Thanks for praying!
Strange. A few years ago, someone called 911 because they had located multiple dead birds in their yard. Even after we arrived, a few more fell to the ground. We called for detection equipment thinking that with the mines all over the mountain there might be a pocket of methane around, but found nothing. I think that they determined that the birds had eaten something they should not have…
