Moving Back

by Alan on July 8, 2008

We wanted to let you all know that we have come to the final decision to move back to the States to do additional fund raising. We will be living in the Bristol, TN area. Because of the differences in the educational systems between the US and UK, we feel that it might have to be up to a 2 year commitment – since if we went back after 1 year, both Caleb and Josh would have to start this current year all over again…and for Josh it may be impossible. So…here we are. Please pray for God to provide housing. Because of cheap housing (and disproportionate high rental costs), we are considering the possibility of try to buy a house – which could later serve as a rental. So pray with us about that as well. The boys both started football today and are excited about that. And we have an appointment on Thursday for Philip at the local community college (which means we won’t be in Charlotte until Friday). We also have new cell phones for each of us:

Alan: 423-956-0830

Janie: 423-956-5533

Philip: 423-956-2724

Caleb: 423-956-0784

Janie and the kids (probably Brea, Bryce & Josh) will stay here and not even return. And Philip and I will have a LOT to do to pack things up back in England. Please pray for all the logistical concerns – landlord reaction, storage vs shipping back, selling cars, getting the kids settled in school, etc. Our heads are spinning!

I noticed recently that all of us have experienced being uprooted at one time or another and possibly feeling a sense of homelessness. The Churchills have had to move a lot in the past few years, the Brauers have had to adjust to a new place, the G. Waldeckers have had to move a lot, and you guys (the A. Waldeckers) have certainly had a rough ride the past few years.

In some sense I have a constant sorrow in my heart, for friends and places far away, for friendships that used to be, and for often being uncertain where I belong; but in some sense it is a sweet sorrow, because this rootlessness I often feel in this body God has used to help me be rooted in His love and to be established by faith and in grace.

There have been times (like going to Saint Louis) when I have felt foundationless, or like the rug has been pulled from under my feet; but God has been teaching me to stand firmly on His Word. It is the one and only true foundation. God is the rock and there is no other. I know that I have a sure hope and a true home through Jesus Christ.

All this to say that, to some degree I empathize with you all and groan with you all in my spirit. I have been praying and will continue to pray for all of you.

I’m glad you have resolved what direction to take. Limbo is a frustrating place to be. I will be praying intently for you to find everything you need. We look forward to seeing you Friday. Brea and Bryce are doing very well! It is a joy to have them with us! We swam for about 3 hours yesterday. They’ve watched a couple of movies. Obviously some video gaming is occurring. Uncle David let the 3 little kids pick something out at Cracker Barrel on the way home. Brea picked a webkins animal, Bryce picked a bag of Bubble gum, and Linnea picked a paper doll set.:)
