Wow!

This afternoon the head of the high school at Stony Brook called me and officially offered me the Spanish teaching job!! I’m quite thrilled and terrified all at the same time. The precise “configuration” of classes I’ll be teaching won’t be certain until Thursday (though I know I’ll be teaching three). I’m quite confident that this is what God would like me to do, so I plan to officially accept the offer when they call me on Thursday!

Thank you so much for your prayers and encouragement so far, and do keep praying as I embark on this new adventure! Here’s a run-down of what my responsibilities will be

  1. Teaching three Spanish classes (most likely Spanish 3, Spanish 4, and AP Spanish)
  2. Helping to coach a sport (most likely soccer, during the Soccer season)
  3. Living as an assistant dorm parent (most likely in the dorm housing the younger boys)
  4. Functioning as the administrative hub for the music department (because all of the music faculty will be part-time and not always present on campus). This will require a couple hours/day (or 12 hours/week).

I think these roles fit me well and that they will also challenge and stretch me–praise the Lord for this answer to prayer!

I think all of these roles fit you well and I am so glad to see God leading you in this direction.

Wonderful! How exciting, Micah! I’m not sure how long it would take to get from Long Island to Philadelphia(a couple hours?), but you’re always welcome at our house if you have the time and need a change of scenery.

Thank you, all! I am terrified and thrilled all at once–a recipe, as Seth put it to me, for adventure! 😀

I would start most likely toward the beginning of August.

I would love to come and visit in Philadelphia (and Reamstown, too) when I get a chance.

Congratulations! We trust that this will be a time of joy and encouragement for you and that you will have many opportunities to be a witness for Christ. What churches are near you? Grandpa Tom

Thank you–I’m very excited!

There aren’t any PCA churches nearby to the school (which I was hoping for). I think the closest one is about 50 minutes drive, and Redeemer Presbyterian church is about 60 minutes. The school headmaster has been in the PCA for a long time and regularly goes to Redeemer Pres.

I’ve also spoken with a former professor of the school who recommended and couple bible-believing/evangelical churches. I’m also going to ask my friend from college what church he went to when he was a student there (you may remember him, Poppop, from missionary retreats: Jeff Kyle).

Micah: I haven’t had the opportunity to tell you how thrilled I am for this appointment and I agree 100% this position is suited to you perfectly. And yes I also agree it is an adventure. In fact, I think we ought to wake up everyday thinking we have an adventure ahead of us in Christ! When do you “report” for duty and do you have time to get settled into your living arrangements? And, yes there is always an open door here in Reamstown.
