Prayer Journal: July 15th 1996

by sejwa on February 3, 2008

Yesterday I read through some old prayer journals of mine that I wrote more than ten years ago. I thought it would be interesting to post some of them. Most of the journal is wearingly repetitive, but some of them made me laugh, some of them helped me to see how I have grown, and most of them still have elements of things I am still struggling with. In some respects, the prayers are similar to the way I pray now, except now I use more Scripture. So here we go.

Day1

“Dear Jesus,
Help me to grow up to be a Godly man and help me to become more and more like you each day [I actually still pray this, almost word for word, sometimes]. I pray that I won’t get frustrated and forgive me for getting all wrapped up in myself. Help me to stand firm and that you’ll guide me through my struggles.
There are a lot of things that I want to do and a lot of things I want to be, but I pray that I will be willing to give up everything I have to get your blessing and to follow you.
Help Shawn [a cousin from my Mom’s side of the family] to become a Christian and I pray that you’ll work in his heart. I pray that his poppop will get better if it’s your will. I pray that you’ll work in Brian Barlow’s [a friend from Chile] heart also. Help daddy to finish his doctarait [sic] on time.

In Jesus’s name, amen”

That was my first doctorate, and I finished 8 months later. So that prayer was answered.

It is neat to look back and see what one has written. You inspired me to look back at my journal from even a few months back and it is encouraging many times to see what I have learned and am still learning. Thanks for sharing!
