Rain, Rain, Rain…

by Nathan Brauer on January 18, 2006

Rain. I love the rain. I love the sound of the rain on the roof, and the smell of rain in the air. After it rains, the air seems more fresh and the outdoors seems quiter. Rain, it washes the earth…..

and my garage. Yes after yesterday’s continuous rain, I came home to again find 3-4 inches of water in my garage. This time though I got home while it was still raining and confirmed that the water is indeed coming from my drainpipe to nowhere that is in the garage floor. I spent about 20 minutes trying to sqeegee (sp?) the water out of my garage, but it was still raining and I was not making any progress. So I decided that I was not going to worry about it and go to my small group study. Of course the water was still there when I came home, and it was still raining. It was a fairly light rain at that time, so I thought I would take another stab at it. I succeeded in reducing the overall amount of water in the garage, but the water was still coming from the pipe. I made the decision to leave the garage door open a little (so if there was a drastic amount of rain overnight the water would flow out instead of building up) and went to bed. This of course means that there was still water in the garage when I woke up (and is was still comming out of the pipe). I at work now, and will worry about clearing the garage when I get home. One of my small group hypothesized that perhaps this drain was dug close to a wet water spring. I hope not, but apparently there are a few of them around. I do not know what to do about this. I was a little upset though when I discovered where the water was coming from, because it probably means I was lied to by the previous home owner, whom I specifically asked if they had any problems with flooding. Be that as it may, God has a purpose in it and I am certain that it is more than just to clean my garage floor (which is a nice benefit, but one that I can do without).

I hope to find a solution soon that is both good for the house and economical. Until then though, feel free to bring over the swim trunks, row boats or what-have-you!

Sorry to hear about this problem. Are you going to call the previous owner and ask him for any insights he might have? We’ll pray about it.

I’m sorry, Nathan. A home inspector might be able to tell you how to fix the problem.

I am going to talk with my neighbor. He has some history with the house as well. He also may have a number for the previous owner.
