Caught Red-Headed

by micah on January 20, 2007

We have a window bird feeder that our neighborhood birds have been visiting quite regularly and frequently (they almost seem in a panic to get food – maybe it’s the cold weather). We mostly get chickadees, titmice, goldfinches, an occasional cardinal, and, today, we saw a red-bellied woodpecker!

Here is a picture of a chickadee I caught just leaving the feeder (I think it saw me taking a picture of it 🙂 )

Note that the woodpecker is a red-bellied woodpecker even though it has more read on its head than on it’s belly!

It was neat! the woodpecker was quite larger than most of the birds that have come to that feeder, so it was interesting to watch him there, even as other smaller birds tried to get some food!
